Palmetto Eats goes French: Mad about Macaroons

French cuisine, one that I love so much and definitely do not get enough of. Well thanks to my mom exploring my new home, she found the most amazing french bakery right around the corner of where I work. The name of this little hideaway is Christophe Artisan French Chocolate Cafe. This old street house turned cafe is one not many people know about, but honestly they should. Here, keep reading and i'll make you want to get up right now and go there to get a fresh cup of french pressed pot coffee and a chocolate croissant.

Christophe's was a great find and by taking just one look at the menu, you want to indulge in everything. This great hideaway is located at 90 Society Street in Charleston, SC and you will know you have found the right spot when you smell the fresh made french press pot coffee or by the French  Flag hanging just outside its shop.

This quaint little building has a main level which houses all of their amazing eats and drinks. Your eyes will indulge in hand painted chocolates, truffles, croissants, tarts and pastries, cookies and even fresh made macaroons. Your nose will pick up smells of fresh coffee, tea and even Hot or Iced drinking Chocolate.

If you travel around the corner and upstairs you will find rooms decorated with chairs and tables but definitely has a cozy feel so you can sip your coffee, eat your indulgence and look out into the courtyard or flip through a magazine.

Okay okay now on to what I got to enjoy today. Any guesses about what french treat I treated myself to? I'll give you a hint, the title of this Blog post kinda gives it away. Hopefully you guessed it... obviously French Macaroons!

So as you are looking at the display case, your eyes don't know where to look first (well mine didn't anyway). But finally my eyes settled on the delicate, tiny french macaroons. They have Caramel Sea Salt, Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut, Coconut, Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Peanut Butter, Pistachio, Praline, Raspberry, Strawberry and Vanilla. Now with a list like how could you possibly choose just one to indulge on? Well from the picture on the right, clearly I got more than one, and even choosing two flavors was difficult (but thank goodness I can go back, and definitely will!)

Pictured right are two flavors that I have always wanted to try: Lavender and Raspberry. One bite into its hard exterior brings you into its soft interior. It's light and fluffy and makes you want to take just one more bite (even though that clearly won't happen and you will want to savor it till the last crumb.) You get hints of Lavender through out but isn't overpowering and leaves a nice taste on your palate. Raspberry is the same way and they clearly are the perfect french treat to end a meal, sip with press pot coffee or with a cup of tea.

So have I made your decision on your next place to grab a cup of coffee or a sweet treat? I sure hope so! The next time you are wondering where to go for a good meal, sweet treat or homemade recipe, come right here and this southern girl will take care of you.
