Dancin along to the Hoop Dee Doo Revue

Ah.. the joys of booking your Disney vacation and planning every detail down to the fast pass times, dining locations and even what time you need to catch the bus back to your resort at the end of a busy day. Well if you want to make your trip interesting.. plan a surprise dining location (which is what happened on my latest trip) to start your vacation off on a good note. My twin sisters boyfriend booked our first night dining at Fort Wilderness Lodge at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue! A location I have heard so many great things about, it was an awesome surprise to start our week long vacation.

Nestled in the depths of Disney's Fort Wilderness and sitting along Seven Seas Lagoon, you will find the Pioneer Hall where you will sit and enjoy a countrified feast. If I can give you some advice, be prepared to sing, clap and stomp along to some good ol' rustic country tunes. But i bet you are really interested in the country fare that we dined on.. well keep reading and I will share with ya.

Now tell me, what comes to mind when you think of a country feast? Do you think Cornbread? Baked Beans? What about Fried Chicken? Well if any of those items came to your mind, then this is the place for you! Enjoy all you can eat fried chicken, smoked BBQ pork ribs, baked beans, cornbread, tossed green salad and to top it off strawberry shortcake! I'll tell you right now, you won't be leaving hungry!
Okay so when you walk into Pioneer Hall, you are greeted at the door by a cast member and walked to a table in either the upper or lower part of the hall (we were lucky to be sitting right up in front of the stage!) The table is set in good ole country fashion (red and white checkered napkins, tin plates and all drinks are served in mason jars!). Now if your like me, this place is your gold mine because you don't have to decide on what to order! The only menu that you will be handed is the drink menu and you wanna know the best part? Unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are included with the price of your meal! Now after ordering your drinks, you finally get to see the table and already there upon your arrival is a tossed green salad in a tin bucket and two big helpings of southern style corn bread, with butter on the side!

Now i will let you know, the show does not start right away. Sit down and enjoy some cornbread and salad while you wait, because once the show starts, your eyes will not pay attention to the food, but to the performers on stage. Claire De Lune, Johnny Ringo, Dolly Drew, Six Bits Slocum, Flora Long and Jim Handy take the stage and immerse you in a country sing and dance show. Get ready for audience participation because it will be asked and how could you miss out on it.

After a few musical numbers, it is finally time to eat! Each waiter or waitress will come around and drop tin buckets of fried chicken on the table. Then they will come back around and drop another tin bucket full of smoked BBQ pork ribs. Finally they come back around one more time and drop off sides of mashed potatoes and baked beans to round out your meal. Now you are going to have to make room for all of this tasty food; so I recommend doing what we did, grab your meat of choice (or a little bit of both) then place the sides over the buckets of meat. Now all around you all you can hear are people digging into this fine country fare. I think for me, the best part of the meal was the fried chicken. A southern girl at heart, I love fried chicken and here at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, they had some of the best fried chicken I have had in a long time.

So by this time, you have had your share of country fare, and the performers come back on stage to perform some more. Remember when I said there was audience participation? Well you could be one of the few lucky ones to get to go on stage and join the show! As for everyone else, get ready to clap your hands, stomp your feet, hoot and holler and finally wave those checkered napkins in the air. Now right before the end of the show, your waiter or waitress will come on stage to present you with dessert. A family style serving of strawberry shortcake will be dropped off for everyone to enjoy. One final performance will occur and get you joining in one last time with instruments and then the show ends.

So are you full yet? Well we all sure were at the end and needed to walk around a little to work off dinner. Well I hope you enjoyed this post, and I can't wait to keep sharing with you my awesome food adventure I had while at the Happiest Place on Earth! So have I made your decision on your next meal choice while at Walt Disney World? I sure hope so! The next time you are wondering where to go for a good meal, sweet treat or homemade recipe, come right here and this southern girl will take care of you.
