The Palmetto State indulges in a Southern favorite

Image
Shrimp and Grits. A southern staple that almost everyone in the south has had and even if you do not live in the south and are here for a visit have tried. Before I get things started, let me share with you what exactly the dish entails and where it is most popular. Shrimp and Grits is a traditional dish (breakfast to be precise) of the Low Country (in places like South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina and more). You can either have your grits regular, creamy or al dente, but no matter how you have them cooked, this southern staple is one you either love or hate. Now enough of this small talk, let's get on to the actual dish shall we? Now I bet that y'all are expecting the typical Shrimp and Grits dish, but just stay with me, because the dish I experience had a different take on the original southern classic and one that will have your mouth watering.  Brought to you from the Barony Tavern, located at 68A Wentworth Street in Charleston,SC; I present to you Sh

Oh the glories of Italian food. Y'all can't tell me that you don't enjoy a good, authentic Italian meal; but let me ask you one question. When you think of Italian dessert what comes to mind? Do you think we are thinking of the same thing? My guess is probably not, but hey thats okay. When you are done reading this blog, the first thing that will come to your mind when you hear the words Italian dessert will be this "pick me up" (which is the translation for this Italian word). Okay just one more question.. do you know what the Italian word is for "pick me up"? And no don't cheat and google it. Give up? Alright I'll tell you... the answer is Tiramisu. Yes Tiramisu in Italian means pick me up and this dessert is exactly that. On any occasion you can make this dessert and it will definitely be the pick me up of your occasion. Now keep reading and you will get step by step directions on making this recipe and also feast with your eyes on my presenta

Life's like a box of Chocolates, you never know what you're gonna to get... especially in the Palmetto State

You've heard the saying "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get" quoted from the famous movie Forrest Gump. Well remember Forrest's friend during the war Bubba and his dream of having a shrimp business? Well yea his dream is a reality not only here in Charleston,SC but also in other locations up and down the east coast. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. has been providing fresh seafood and a good atmosphere to the people of Charleston for many years now, and if you haven't heard of the famous movie... then I recommend you go to the movie store and rent it and also go to the restaurant to learn more about Bubba's dream. Now I didn't come here to lecture you on not seeing the movie, so keep reading and I'll share my great dish and perfect cocktail at this prime movie location. First with the cocktail. Now what kind of blogger would I be if I didn't start off with the cocktail. Served in the most southern way possible, in a mason

The Palmetto State dines with fresh pasta and great wine bar

Now y'all know Charleston has some amazing eats, farm to table restaurants and great places to grab a drink; but what if I told you I found a spot that takes the farm to table concept and great cocktails all in one spot. Muse, located at 82 Society Street in downtown Charleston, is tucked away in a quaint old house restored into a restaurant. Walk through the gate and into the front door and you will find yourself in a cozy front entrance looking either at the bar to your right or a room full of tables to your left. Grabbing a table for two, the waiter hands us our menus and immediately my eyes indulge in the whole menu. Shall we see some pictures? Read about the food? I thought y'all would never ask.   For starters (thanks for the recommendation from our waiter), we ordered Bruschetta; but it wasn't your typical bruschetta, it was toasted bread smeared with a garlic hummus topped with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and basil sprinkled with some balsamic. Now I know what y

Food Is Good. We all know that, but i'm not just stating a fact here, I'm telling you the name of a restaurant. FIG aka Food Is Good is one of Charleston's well known hot spots and if you are lucky enough to snag a reservation then I have to applaud you. Typically booked 6 weeks out, FIG is one of those "farm to table" restaurants and one I highly recommend. One feature about this restaurant that makes it a local hot spot is that the menu changes daily, so if every time you go when you visit Charleston, you will never have the same menu twice (and that is what drew me to FIG). Now enough about the facts and lets get on to the food.  Now you know me, looking at a menu where everything sounds good makes my decision hard, but when the menu changes daily and I know I might not get another chance to try a dish again makes my decision even more difficult. Since I couldn't make a decision to save my life, I turned to the waiter and asked her what recommendations
