The Palmetto State learns why F.ood I.s G.ood

Food Is Good. We all know that, but i'm not just stating a fact here, I'm telling you the name of a restaurant. FIG aka Food Is Good is one of Charleston's well known hot spots and if you are lucky enough to snag a reservation then I have to applaud you. Typically booked 6 weeks out, FIG is one of those "farm to table" restaurants and one I highly recommend. One feature about this restaurant that makes it a local hot spot is that the menu changes daily, so if every time you go when you visit Charleston, you will never have the same menu twice (and that is what drew me to FIG). Now enough about the facts and lets get on to the food.

Now you know me, looking at a menu where everything sounds good makes my decision hard, but when the menu changes daily and I know I might not get another chance to try a dish again makes my decision even more difficult. Since I couldn't make a decision to save my life, I turned to the waiter and asked her what recommendations she had. That led me to my first choice (and boy was it a good one). Fresh Lump Crab pasta arrived at my table to start my meal and it surely did not disappoint. Fresh pasta made in house daily to the fresh crab meat that topped the pasta, it was a mouth watering dish that just melted in your mouth. Smothered in a cream based sauce and parmesan cheese, you have a dish that you will be wanting more of and again and again.

Now I have to say, I started this meal off on a good foot, but the main course is one that not a lot of people would order but when you see it and read about it, I might just change your mind
Served with a side of whipped potatoes, topped with fresh, crips granny smith apples and spinach and sitting in its own ju; this main entree is one I need to give more credit too. Now y'all are probably thinking I had chicken or steak, but I hate to tell you that I had neither. I actually had Skate Wing. Now I bet y'all are like "what the heck is skate wing?" but please allow me to tell you.

Skate Wing, for those of you who don't know is fish; but it is not just any type of fish, it is part of the ray family... so yes it is basically sting ray. I was surprised too when I ordered it, but I have to say it was one terrific fish and one I would probably try again. It did not have a fishy taste and paired with the potatoes, spinach and crisp apples, the flavor combo was out of bounds.

Now if you are hesitant about trying Skate Wing, I highly recommend you give it a try. I mean dining at a restaurant where the menu changes daily, you might never get this opportunity again and one you might feel bad about passing up.

So what do you think? Feeling spontaneous and want to try something out of the ordinary? I mean if I was you I would order it, so I hope I have encouraged you to try something new.  I sure hope so! The next time you are wondering where to go for a good meal, sweet treat or homemade recipe, come right here and this southern girl will take care of you.
