The Palmetto State goes to the Happiest Place on Earth Part 3
First things first, if you haven't read Part 1 or Part 2.. I highly advise it... it is not recommended but highly encouraged. Anyway, our culinary adventure through Walt Disney World continues, and we are still walking around the World Showcase for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. Whose ready to see more amazing eats from this amazing festival? Keep reading to see my final stops eating around the world. I promise these are ones you will not want to miss.
Bonjour and welcome to France. France is probably one of my favorite stops around the World Showcase, and by just looking at the picture to the left, how could it not become one of yours either? This famous classic french eat was made famous by one great chef... any guesses? Anyone know what it is? Well i'll give you a hint; it was made by Julia Child and in her cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Know it now? No idea, well i'll tell ya... it is beef bourguignon.
Smothered in sauce, this tender meat sits on top of mashed potatoes and is one amazing bite. I recommend having a little potatoes, and meat and sauce all in one bite. It will melt in your mouth and make you go back for just one more bite... and what I mean by one more bite is you finishing off the whole plate.
Now don't leave France just yet... their is one more thing that you have to get while you are here.
The La Passion Martini Slush is probably hands down one of the best drinks at the festival (and I have had a drink in every country at the festival). Mixed together in this amazing concoction is Vodka, Grey Goose Le Citron with Cranberry and Passion Fruit Juice. Served in a martini glass you are on your way to sipping one of France's finest drinks. Worth every penny, this is one I go back for multiple times during the festival and have no shame.
Now that you know what went into that drink or where you can find the recipe for beef bourguignon, don't you want to go into your own kitchen and prepare a french feast? I know I sure do! Luckily I have Mastering the Art of French Cooking cookbook and will definitely try to make this recipe.
Alright, enough of France, lets move on to the next country shall we?!
I was anxiously waiting for us to get to this market place. It is one of my favorite of the festival and the food that comes from this market place is out of this world good. Pierogi's have to be one of my favorite polish food of all time, so seeing this food offering at the festival, their was no way I was going to miss it. Pierogi's with onions and kielbasa, how could it not get any better than that.
For those of you who don't know what a pierogi is.. allow me to share it with you. "Pierogi or pirogi, also known as varenyky, are filled dumplings of East European origin. They are made by wrapping pockets of unleavened dough around a savory or sweet filling and cooked in boiling water (google.com)."
Now when ordering this from the Poland market place, I recommend grabbing a piece of kielbasa, onion and some pierogi and eating it all in one bite. The flavor combination is out of this world and will make you want to go back for more.
Knowing me, you would think I would end on this awesome eat, but their is one more place that I had to stop at and end on an amazing note.
Head on over to Hops and Barley and grab yourself a lobster roll (and for all of you Massachusetts people.. it is not lobsta.. it is pronounced lobster (with an "r")) Typically I like to have a traditional lobster roll with fresh lobster tossed in warm butter, but I will not oppose fresh lobster tossed with peppers, onions and mayo. Served on a traditional crunchy roll, this lobster roll stood its own during the festival. I was a little hesitant to get it, since I have been to Maine and have had the real deal, but knowing Disney, they definitely did not disappoint.
So are you ready to pack your bags and head to Orlando, so you can have these amazing eats? I know I'm ready to go back! But promise me when you go down there you bring me with you! I mean who else is going to tell you what to have?!
