Palmetto treats: Gelato at its finest

Image
Today's post talks about an Italian treat that I could eat all day everyday; and that treat is Gelato! I know what your thinking, can southerners really make gelato. Well they can actually. If you are heading to downtown Charleston in South Carolina, I highly recommend making this your dessert stop! Belgian Gelato was opened in 1926 and has been in operation for quite some time now. Located on 324 King Street, this local shop will surely satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. But y'all are probably wondering what gelato is and its history. Well please, allow me to explain it to you! Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream and is derived from the Latin word Gelatus which means frozen. Gelato first popped up in Sicily, Italy and now is something world wide that you can even find it in your local freezer section of your grocery store. But enough about the history, let me tell you about the sweet treat that was purchased when I went to this great find!...

As y'all know, I love me some great southern food, so naturally I would have to bring that southern cuisine into my own kitchen. Every southern loves their fried chicken or wings, so this post today is about one of my favorite family recipes for, you guessed it, WINGS! So let's indulge shall we! First let's gather our ingredients.      1-2 packages of Chicken Wings or        Drumsticks (4- 5 wings/ drumsticks per person)     6 Cloves of Garlic, peeled     2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil     1/2 Cups of Mayo     1 Tablespoon of Corn Syrup     2 Tablespoons of Parmesan cheese     1 Teaspoon of Lemon Juice     1 Tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar     1/4 Teaspoon of Thyme     1/4 Teaspoon of Marjoram                                   ...

Food For The Southern Soul: My First Palmetto Eats

Image
As a southern girl myself, I can never deny myself the opportunity to get some good southern food, no matter what the cost. So when I was walking around my new home (Charleston, SC) in downtown and stumbled across this great find, I knew I couldn't not stop and get something. This joint is one I would recommend to tourists and locals alike, because lets face it, you can never get to much southern BBQ. The name of this awesome find is Food for the Southern Soul. Located at the Charleston City Market, it is one you definitely have to go out of your way for and grab a piece of their southern soul food.  Pictured left is my delicious meal I bought. For $11.00 I got a pulled pork sandwich in a Carolina Mustard Sauce and a double side of Mac & Cheese and some Iced Tea. Now tell me, does any of that sound bad to you?  The pulled pork sammie is piled high with fresh pulled pork and slathered in sauce dripping from every inch of the sammie. Take one bite and your taste bud...
