The Palmetto State is Puttin on the Spritz at Oak Steakhouse
Every once in a while, you just need a night out on the town. You know, where you get all dressed up and treat yourself to an amazing meal. Well, recently I did just that and let me tell you it was the best steak dinner I have had in a while. Tucked away down on Broad Street in downtown Charleston, Oak Steakhouse redefines steakhouse, but in the best possible way. Keep reading so you can indulge with me on this amazing meal.
Now I recommend ordering a cocktail to start off this one of a kind meal. Now when going through the cocktail and wine list, everything will jump out at you, but let me make your decision easy.. just choose this drink right here. It is called Puttin' on the Spritz and tastes just as good as it looks. What's in it you may ask, well let me share with you. Mixed together is Vodka, Cocchi Rose, Sugar Cube, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Topped with Cava and an Edible Orchid Flower. Now don't tell me this does not sound like the best drink out there. It was the perfect cocktail paired with an even amazing dinner. But don't worry, we are just getting started. What's served up next? Appetizers of course. Keep reading to see what was served for the first course!
Pictured to the right sits a classic seafood dish Oysters Rockefeller. Served on a plate covered in rock salt and half a lemon, this is sure to get your taste buds going. Served on the half shell and topped with a combination of mouth watering ingredients and then broiled to perfection, you have been served up one unique take on a classic seafood dish. Now let me give you a little piece of advice, make sure you do not have any rock salt on your Oyster or fork... you will get a burst of salt and not taste the oyster at all... trust me I know.. it happened to me. Now you probably see that amazing looking piece of bread at the bottom of the picture. Any guess on the other appetizer that I got served up at Oak? No idea? Well keep on reading and i'll share with you. Once you see the next picture, you will want to eat that dish too.
Thin layers of beef, sprinkled with parmigiano-reggiano and a horseradish and whole grain mustard aioli with toasted baguettes you have your self a perfect serving of Carpaccio of Beef. One look and your eyes start eating away at the plate, but pick up a baguette and indulge and you will not be sorry. Now let me recommend a suggestion to you; first take a baguette, next add multiple slices of thin beef and add a little parmigiano-reggiano and some of the aioli and finally take a bite. A mixture of crunch, warm beef and a kick from the aioli, your taste buds will go crazy. Trust me when I say, you will go for bite after bite until the whole plate is gone. Having this for the first time, I have to say the standard has been set for this classic dish; so other restaurants in the Charleston area, you have your work cut out for you. If you are unsure if you will like this dish, the picture alone should convince you that this is one dish you can't pass up.
Wondering whats getting served up for the main course? Well keep reading and see what was served up.
Pictured to the right side of the page is a perfectly cooked 8oz CAB filet mignon. Served with a roasted tomato and Oak Steak sauce, you have yourself a melt in your mouth steak. They only use the highest quality of beef for their steaks and are packed with flavor. Now their steaks are not served with sides, but just looking down the list of family style sides, you will have a tough time deciding what exactly you should choose. Now let me recommend something to you; go with a friend and you each order something different and share.. i mean they aren't called family style sides for nothing. Now keep reading to see my top recommendations. One family style side has been on the menu for the last 17 years! I mean at that point, how could you not order that? It has to be good if it has earned a spot on the menu for that long.
Alright, so your mouth must be watering.. and if it isn't then something is wrong with you. Going from left to right you are looking at Smokey Bacon Mac N Cheese, Brussel sprouts and red onion tossed in a sweet chile sauce and finally grilled asparagus and manchego tossed in an egg vinaigrette. Now remember earlier when I told you that one of these family sides has been on their menu for the last 17 years?! Any guesses as to which one it may be? Don't bother looking at the menu because it doesn't tell you... but seriously now.. any guesses? Fine then, i'll tell you. Pictured to the far left, the smokey bacon mac n cheese has been placed on Oak's menu for the last 17 years and after having a bite or two.. fine like the whole side.. I came to realize that it is definitely one that should never be taken off. Don't get me wrong, all three sides were spectacular, but you know me.. i love myself some good mac n cheese. Now I can't cut short the brussel sprouts and the asparagus. Each tossed in their respective sauces, these are some of the best tasting veggies I have had in a while. One offers you a sweet but spicy kick and the other one just melts in your mouth making you want to go back for just one more piece. One recommendation I make to y'all is if you have leftovers.. eat them cold. I know I know but trust me on this, the flavors really get time to develop even more and one bite the next day and you would think you were sitting right back at Oak Steakhouse.
But whose ready for dessert? I mean after eating all of that, how could you possibly think I could eat one more bite. Well when this classic dessert arrived at the table, you would make room for one more bite as well.
Served in a warm ramekin with a torched top and three fresh blueberries, you have yourself the classic creme brûlée; but adding a little Vanilla bean.. Oak steakhouse has taken creme brûlée to the next level. Indulge your spoon onto the crystalized top and spoon out what sits underneath. You have yourself one light and airy dessert that will make you take just one more bite (okay I'm lying.. you will finish the whole thing I swear). In mere moments it is gone and you think to yourself I just want one more bite, but after you put your spoon down you will come to realize you are feeing perfect after a spectacular meal.
Now has anything that I have described to you sounded bad or did not look good? It all looked amazing right?! Well I wish y'all could have been there because this food was out of bounds amazing and I'm wondering when I will be able to go back again to indulge in something else.
